Intro to Guitar
Guitar Reading and Notation
- Intro to Guitar is a beginning level course and is open to all students, regardless of experience. Guitars will be provided. Students will learn basic picking and fretting technique, open chords, bar chords, strum patterns, basic melodic technique, reading lead sheets and an introduction to reading standard music notation. Class participation and presentations are a significant aspect of this course.
Guitar Reading and Notation
- *Students who have not taken Intro to Guitar who wish to audition for this class must see the Fine and Practical Arts Department Chairperson for audition material. Auditions must be completed before course requests have been submitted.
Guitar Reading and Notation is the second course in the guitar sequence and is open to all students who have successfully completed Intro to Guitar. Additionally, students with basic guitar technique, including picking and fretting and the ability to play open chords and bar chords in steady time may audition to place directly into this course without taking Intro to Guitar. Guitars will be provided. The course will cover standard guitar notation including chordal rhythm slash notation, melodic notation and chordal notation. Class participation and presentations are a significant aspect of this course.
